When the Main Line Backs Up
Your main sewer line carries everything from your house to the city sewer or septic system. When it clogs, nothing works right—toilets back up, floor drains overflow, and wastewater has nowhere to go. It's one of the most urgent plumbing problems you can face.
Canton's older neighborhoods have clay tile sewer lines that are prone to root intrusion and joint failures. Newer areas have plastic pipe but can still develop problems. We work on all types and know what to look for.
Signs of Sewer Line Problems
Multiple Drains Backing Up
When the problem is in the main line, it affects everything. If your toilet backs up when you run the washing machine, or the shower drain gurgles when you flush, the main line is probably blocked.
Water in the Basement
Sewage backing up through floor drains or coming up around the basement toilet is a classic sign of main line blockage. Not pleasant, but we deal with it regularly.
Slow Drains Throughout the House
If every drain is sluggish, the common point is the main sewer. Individual fixture clogs affect one drain; main line problems affect them all.
Sewage Odors
Smell something foul near floor drains or outside near the cleanout? Could indicate a blockage, break, or venting issue in the sewer line.
What We Do
Main Line Cleaning
Heavy-duty cable machines cut through roots and break up blockages in pipes from 3" to 6" diameter. We go from cleanout to city connection or septic tank.
Root Removal
Tree roots seek moisture and find their way into sewer joints. We cut them out with specialized root-cutting heads. For severe infestations, we may recommend hydro jetting or pipe repair.
Camera Inspection
We push a waterproof camera through the line to see exactly what's happening—root intrusion, pipe collapse, bellies, offsets, or buildup. You see the footage too.
Cleanout Installation
No cleanout access? We can install one, making future maintenance easier and less expensive.
Stark County Sewer Service
We handle main line problems throughout the area: Canton, Massillon, North Canton, Alliance, Louisville, and surrounding townships.
